MIDSOMMARFEST PRESS RELEASE
Following a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce (ACC) is pleased to announce the return of Andersonville Midsommarfest, one of Chicago’s oldest and most beloved summer street festivals. Now in its 56th year, the annual festival will be held June 10 – 12, 2022 along Andersonville’s Clark Street corridor.
For three nights and two days, this vibrant and diverse community will bring together over 75,000 people to celebrate a proud Swedish summer tradition with eclectic music, great vendors, food and free kids’ activities. Vendors applications for artists, nonprofit organizations, merchants and food vendors are currently being accepted here through April 22, 2022.
Midsommarfest kicks off Friday, June 10 from 5 pm – 10 pm from Catalpa to Foster and continues Saturday, June 11 and Sunday, June 12 from 12 pm – 10 pm. New this year, Friday night’s festivities will expand an additional three blocks from Catalpa all the way Foster, instead of ending at Summerdale as in previous years.
This year’s festival will feature more than 50 music and entertainment acts on five stages, kicking off Friday night with three stages: the North Stage at Clark & Catalpa, the Berwyn Stage and The Swedish Stage at Clark & Foster (sponsored by the Swedish American Museum), returning for the first time since the Festival’s 50th anniversary in 2015. Saturday and Sunday bring the addition of the Balmoral Pride Stage (sponsored by Replay Andersonville) and the Family Stage at Summerdale (sponsored by Rattleback Records).
As always, Midsommarfest will celebrate Andersonville’s Swedish culture and history. The Swedish Stage at Clark & Foster (sponsored by the Swedish American Museum) will feature traditional Swedish activities throughout the weekend, including a dance around the Maypole. The Swedish American Museum will serve delicious Swedish cuisine and offer free admission during the festival.
Admission to the Midsommarfest is a $10 suggested donation. Proceeds from admission and beer sales benefit the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce, along with several local non-profit organizations including Babes With Blades Theatre Company, Care For Real, Friends of Andersonville, Friends of Chappel, local block clubs and others. Historically, Andersonville has donated back more than $20,000 to these participating organizations. Festivalgoers can also pick up a complimentary new copy of the 2022-23 Andersonville Neighborhood Guide at the Andersonville Chamber Booth located at Berwyn and Clark.
ACC also encourages visitors to shop local during the days of the festival, offering $1 beer tickets to patrons who spend $30 or more at local brick and mortar stores and service businesses (restaurants and festival vendors, not included). To redeem beer tickets, bring a receipt (paper or digital) dated June 10 – 12 to the Chamber tent located at Clark & Berwyn..
The Shedd Aquarium has generously sponsored the Andersonville Eco Block bringing together Reuso, WasteNot Composting, and Edgewater Environmental Coalition. Rent out reusable containers from REUSO at the eco block to enjoy a zero waste meal! The first 75 containers returned will received a drink token of up $13 in value redeemable at Gadabout! Make sure to recycle your cans and find out more about composting!
