The Andersonville Chamber of Commerce (ACC) is taking the Midsommarfest experience online for a virtual event and fundraiser on Friday, June 12 to celebrate the weekend in which the 55th annual outdoor Midsommarfest was previously scheduled to take place before the postponement last month. Andersonville at Home: A Midsommarfest Experience & Fundraiser will stream on ACC’s Facebook page live with a pre-show at 6:00 p.m. and the main event beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Andersonville at Home hopes to engage the community in a fun night of Midsommarfest-themed entertainment while raising funds to support ACC and the operations necessary to continue to service the business community in the months to come.
"The Chamber is able to serve the Andersonville community year-round because of the generous gate donations given at Midsommarfest,” comments ACC Executive Director Sara Dinges. “If you give at the gate, please consider chipping in $5, $10, $20 during Andersonville at Home to help support and sustain the Chamber, so that we can remain of service to the Andersonville community, especially as we enter an important chapter of post-pandemic economic recovery."
ACC is a 501c6 non-profit organization, which depends heavily on special events to fund its year-round programming. 501c6 organizations were ineligible for the federal relief provided through the PPP and CARES Act. With no federal assistance or special events in the foreseeable future, it is critical for the Chamber to reach out for community support.
The main Andersonville at Home program will welcome host Molly Callinan of the local band Catfight and will feature performances from bands who frequent Midsommarfest each year. Along with Catfight, additional performers who have signed on so far include: Dancing Queen: An #ABBASalute, Tears Dry on Their Own, Lynne Jordan, The Oh Yeahs, Laura Doherty, Molehill and Mel Senese.
Andersonville businesses will also take part with a performance by Gus Giordano Dance School, trivia by Stewpendous Productions and video tributes from Rattleback Records, Women and Children First, Swedish American Museum, Be Yoga Andersonville, and more.
The Andersonville at Home pre-show at 6:00 p.m. will feature DIY cocktail videos from local favorites such as Replay Andersonville & Elixir, Meeting House Tavern and The SoFo Tap, a special at-home recipe from Hungry by Nature, and will also encourage viewers to order takeout in advance from their favorite Andersonville restaurants, some offering Midsommarfest-themed to-go meals.
Guests can RSVP in advance to Andersonville at Home: A Midsommarfest Experience via the ACC Facebook event. Donations for the event will be collected through Venmo to the ACC at username @AvilleChamber. While donations are non-tax deductible, all donors will be supplied with a written receipt.
