Friday, October 14 – Night of 100 pARTies

Andersonville comes alive as we kick-off our 14th annual Andersonville Arts Weekend with a fabulous night of parties throughout the neighborhood featuring nearly 100 artists and over 30 locally owned businesses! See below for participating business events:

5-10pm
Chicago Mindful Psychotherapy
A party celebrating creative expressions of self, emotion, relationships and the rich vibrancy of being in the moment. Sweet and salty snacks, wine, beer and beverages provided, along with free, self-guided mindfulness exercises to enhance your experience of the art and and the party. Plus, $40 coupons to enroll in the More Mindful Parenting and/or Mindfulness for Couples workshops.

6-10pm
Art Pop at 5438 – Andersonville Arts Weekend Hub
Kick off Andersonville Arts Weekend by visiting our first pop-gallery at 5438 N Clark. The pop-up serves as the Arts Weekend Hub, a place to grab brochure/maps, meet friends and enjoy the seven artists on display, along with live music, and samples from Chutney Devies and True North Cafe!

About Red Velvet: In 1833, there was an unwritten rule against black actors performing on London’s stages, but when Edmund Kean collapsed on the stage of the Theatre Royal while playing Othello, to the shock of audiences and critics, a young African-American actor was called in to take over the role. Outside the theatre, the public was rioting in the streets over the abolition of slavery. Inside, another revolution was about to begin.

The pHComedy Theater
Performances all night. Mention Arts Weekend for ½ price tickets to any Friday night performance:

8pm | Bad Advice: pH is starting your Arts Weekend off with some Bad Advice. Four players take your suggestion and spin it into three acts full of memorable characters, madcap situations and unbelievably horrible advice. At the end of each act one of the characters from the show will offer you their unique takes on anything and everything.

9:30pm | Election!: As our nation hurtles into uncertain doom, The pH Comedy Theater is obliged to take a step back and make fun of this entire process. Election!, an improvised debate and election will take place every Friday from Sept 30 right up through Election Day itself!

Midnight | Midnight Oil: Dan Wright hosts a late night session of up and coming improv teams, all headlined by a group of pH veterans. $5 and BYOB lets you start your weekend off by burning the midnight oil.

More Compassionate Parenting (part of Mindful Parenting series): Preregistration required on website; education around the neuroscience of compassion, and real-life, take-home exercises to promote self-compassion and teach children compassion.

The pH Comedy TheaterAdventure Library Improv for Kids
Kids are amazing! Books are amazing! The pH Comedy Theater has decided to combine both! Join them at the Adventure Library, where kids vote on their favorite book. Then, with their help, we slowly start re-writing the story using imagination and a whole lot of laughter.

The pH Comedy Theater: The Berwyn Bunch: All Star Improv – FREE SHOW
Here’s the story of some lovely improvisers all talented with hair of gold…
OK, so maybe not all hair of gold, but completely lovely and completely hilarious veteran improvisers are ready to kick off your Saturday night with some all-star improv. The pH Comedy Theater’s new free showcase, The Berwyn Bunch, puts together some of pH’s most veteran players to experiment and thrill with pH’s signature style of play – faster, smarter, funnier.

Family dynamics get thrown in the blender and whipped up in delicious melodies, in this completely improvised musical. You help create the characters, the plot and you even tell us how the songs are going to sound. You could pay over $100 for those fancy pants downtown musicals, or $15 to create your very own! Live music, dancing and laughing – now that’s a night out.

The pH Comedy Theater: The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
pH is thrilled to bring The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee to Chicago. In the spirit of The pH Comedy Theater’s emphasis on audience participation, four audience members will be brought up on stage as part of the show each and every night in order to try to wrest the title of Spelling Bee Champ away from our adorably quirky cast of characters.
